In the text of "The Ukraine", the border between fiction and documentary is deliberately violated: some parts of it reproduce reality, and others are a product of imagination. Will each reader understand which ones are which? And does it matter? After all, a work of art is more believable than an absurd reality. The fragments of "The Ukraine" are tangentially connected, as in a puzzle – and from their totality, the contours of Ukraine at the beginning of the twenty-first century emerge in relief. Or the Ukraine, as the heroes ironically say.
