The 1964 film "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors" became a true cultural phenomenon of its time. Ambiguously perceived and resonant at the same time, "Shadows..." clearly stood out against the background of the prevailing socialist realism of the Soviet sixties. The innovation of the creative team, the appeal to the ethnography of the little-explored Carpathians, the timeless scenes attracted the attention of both domestic censors and leading foreign directors. Such outstanding creative breakthroughs require comprehensive research, including reference to the stories and legends that inevitably accompany the film process. The views of the authors of the film on the same events turn out to be diametrically opposed, which makes it impossible to establish a single truth. Also, it is interesting to learn the memories of the film crew of the residents of Verkhovyna, where the filming took place. The book "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors. Graphic Stories" combined the stories about the creation of the film, which were collected and researched by Boris Filonenko, and recreated them in the visual forms of comics and posters by the Club of Pictoric Illustrators. After their address to the broad topic of contemporary portraits of outstanding Ukrainians in the book "Activists of Ukraine", working with the currently trending sixties movement becomes another step towards the actualization of our culture.
