Mykhailo Kotsiubinsky wrote the story "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors" under the impression of his stay in Hutsulshchyna in 1910-11.
This is a book about the primordial love between Ivanko and Marichka, which grew together with them despite the blood feud between their families. It is also a story about betrayal and free love, about the pain of loss and the power of feelings, about death and existential loneliness, and at the same time about Hutsul vitaism and the ability to acquire.
This edition is unique because it preserves the language of the last surviving publication of the story in 1913.
Dariia Lutsyshyna worked on the illustrations for the book, and previously created the images of "Grandfather Ivanchyk" and "Opryshky".
The foreword was written by Oleksandra Salii, a literary critic, and researcher of the "Hutsul text".
