The book is dedicated to highlighting the features of the competition for the reconstruction of Khreschatyk, which took place in two rounds during 1944–1947, as well as the history of the post-competition design of individual buildings during 1949–1951.

Based on a wide analysis of archival materials and works of architectural graphics, the features of an alternative appearance of Khreschatyk are revealed, which was proposed for implementation by the participants of the competition, as well as its individual elements, which were developed at the stage of post-competition design. The book is richly illustrated, it presents graphic works from various fund collections and private collections, and descriptions of projects from their participants contained in explanatory notes.

The book is accompanied by a catalog of works of architectural graphics stored in the fund collection of the National Reserve "Sofia Kyivska".

The book is intended both for scientists and a wide range of readers who are interested in the history of Kyiv and its architecture of the last century.
