Green Margarita

A little funny, a little sad, sometimes even tragicomic, like, in fact, life itself - that's how one of the first book bestsellers of independent Ukraine, Svitlana Pyrkalo's novel "Green Margarita" presented itself to the reader. The novel was first published in 2000, when Ukrainian literature was just learning to speak freely, without clichés, with humor, but now seriously, recovering from decades of totalitarian aesthetics. Then critics called it "the first Ukrainian youth novel." However, this book is much more than just a "young adult novel". Svitlana Pyrkalo's text is a true "unbearable lightness of being Ukrainian", a novel about youth and the desire to live a normal life in the not-quite-normal realities of Ukraine at the turn of the millennium. At her request, the author's entire fee was transferred to the "KOLO" Charitable Foundation, which helps the front and civilians who suffered at the hands of the Russians.
