Description

Joan of Arc is a girl who became a symbol of France, a symbol of the struggle for God and the Motherland. Mark Twain's novel, which he styled according to the memories of a companion of the Maid of Orleans, is a highly atmospheric and detailed work that reveals not only the history of the Hundred Years' War and the panorama of battles but also the very person of Joan of Arc.

So, the youngest general in history, the saint of the Roman Catholic Church, and the national heroine of France will be revealed to you, dear reader, on the pages of this book like a small bud, which with each page, becomes a noble rose.

Mark Twain - American writer, humorist, satirist, publicist, and publisher.

He prepared to write this novel for almost thirteen years, and it took him another two years to work directly on the text. "This will be a serious book, it means more to me than all the endeavors that I have ever done," - this is how Mark Twain summed up his work on the novel.

The author knew about his fame as a humorous writer, so for this work, he carried out a particular hoax and passed it off as a translation of a medieval novel with a long title "Personal reminiscences of Joan of Arc by Sieur Louis de Comte, her page and secretary, freely translated from Old French into modern the English language of Jean-Francois Alden, made from an unpublished manuscript kept in the National Archives of France."
