The Woman in the Lake. Raymond Chandler

Cosmetics CEO Deras Kingsley hires private investigator Philip Marlowe to track down his long-lost wife. After a long silence, she sends a telegram asking for a divorce and then disappears without a trace. Marlowe takes on the case, which becomes much more complicated when it turns out that another woman has also disappeared at the same time - the wife of the caretaker of Kingsley's lake house.

Raymond Chandler creates the perfect tension, sending the experienced detective on a search for two women in a city where greed, corruption and indifference lurk in every house, on every street. Smart, ironic, and true to his code of honor, Marlowe follows suit, solving a series of crimes, quickly making enemies, and plunging deeper into a world where good and evil are inextricably linked.
