Description

At the center of the novel "Timequake" is the science fiction writer Kilgore Trout (a recurring character of Kurt Vonnegut and his alter ego) presented in a phantasmagoric situation: there is an unexpected time lapse in the Universe - the Earth is suddenly thrown back ten years, from 2001 to 1991, and all people are forced to repeat everything they did and how they did during this decade without the slightest change - with a complete lack of free will. Its sudden restoration leads to very unexpected situations, which Kilgore Trout will try to unravel.

The adventures of a number of fictional characters are bizarrely intertwined with real events in the lives of Vonnegut himself and his loved ones, which makes the book semi-autobiographical. As always with Vonnegut, the tragic is mixed with the comic, the drama with the farce.

In Timequake, Vonnegut addresses themes of memory, free will, humanism, loneliness, family, and the value of life with his trademark wit, offering an interesting perspective on the incomprehensible mechanics of temporality.

Timequake is the author's last written novel, summing up his work as a satirist, combining humor, skepticism, and a sharp look at the nature of human freedom.
